Estimating soil water suction from texture, bulk density and electrical resistivity

Information on soil water suction (h) is essential to study flow and solute transport in soils, understand engineering behaviors of unsaturated soils. Due limited availability field methods that can accurately measure h, numerous studies have been performed estimate h from more readily available properties. In this study, a new relationship between electrical resistivity (ρ), developed the Gardner retention model Archie’s second law, was used values lower than air entry value formation factor (expressed log-scale) less 1.
